Sacred Hoop (Medicine Wheel)

An ambiguous introduction to the basic teachings of the Sacred Hoop in relation to personal growth and community development.

The Sacred Hoop represents many layers of an Indigenous perspective of life's journey. Through the teachings we will explore how the Sacred Hoop provides some defining outlooks that involve worldview's, understanding of self, sociological, psychological, and spiritual connection.

We will begin with a basic understanding of the Sacred Hoop, followed by modules that pertain to each direction. We learn about the importance of reciprocity and our relationship to Mother Earth and all our relations. From birth to Elder, we gain a deeper understanding of life's journey and the many phases therein.

Proudly situated on Treaty 7 Territory in Southern Alberta, the traditional territories of the Blackfoot: home to the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina, and the  Stoney Nakoda: Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations. We recognize that Calgary is situated on land adjacent to where the Bow River meets the Elbow River and that the traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis" which we now call the City of Calgary. The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.
